Opportunities Abound

As each day passes I wake up to new opportunities as a photographer.  Who would have thought a few months ago that I would be this busy and have more work than I know what to do with.  I truly love being a photographer and I am enjoying every opportunity that is crossing my path.
This past weekend I was honored to be the official photographer for a very large fund raising event in the Port Charlotte area.  I was able to participate in helping to raise money for the Homeless Coalition of Charlotte County.  I not only offered a couple of my photographs for a silent auction, but I helped up the ante with the five bands who performed and raised money by offering my services as a photographer to the band who raised the largest amount of money for the event.  Copperhead was the hands down winner by raising $1800 and I am in the process of securing their contract for my photographic services.

It really felt good to be involved knowing the money raised would buy an entire years’ worth of food for the Homeless Shelter.  I love giving back to those who need a hand up.  God has been good to me and my goal is to give back as much as I can and share my blessings with others.
I will be photographing some really large concerts for 94.5 “The Arrow” this month so stay tuned!

Drum Circle

Last week my friend Geva invited me to photograph a drum circle.  Not sure what I was expecting, but this was quite incredible.  There were all ages at this circle, from the very young to they very young at heart.  My friend was drumming and I was quite intrigued, because I know from reading her book she started out not understanding how to get the rhythms from her drum.  As I listened to the beats they were so uplifting and colorful  and I really wanted to be a part of it, but I can tell you I would have been out of my comfort zone on this one.  As a creative, I’m quite musical, but singing was always my forte.  Being classically trained I tend to even over think that.  So instead of joining in, I listened and tried to capture the rhythm with my camera.  Maybe someday I will go again and attempt to strike up a beat with the group.  But for now I will hear it in my photographs.

Social Media and Me!

To all of my followers, please take a moment to visit my social media hangouts.  I try to post on them all at least once per week and to update the photos.  I make it easy for you to follow me on facebook and Twitter, simply look to the right of this post and “LIKE” my facebook pages.  I work off of goals and I am close to my newest goal which is 600 likes on the first facebook page listed and 100 likes on the second facebook page.  Also I am always trying to keep up with other photographers on twitter and facebook so if you have a page for me to visit please let me know and I will put you in my radar.  We are a community of creatives and I feel we need to support one another in what we do.  I thank each of you for following me and supporting my work, I know it gets better each time I write and use my photographs.  Thank you for allowing me to share a small piece of my world with you.   #photography #writing

Friends, Chickens and Photography

This past weekend I took off for a little road trip.  I had planned this over a month ago, to spend some time with my BFF and her husband. He has recently accepted a job as a communication deputy for their county and was handed some camera equipment.  I went up to visit and also to help him understand his camera a bit more.  He was pretty knowledgeable so it was an easy job.

Because my life is crazy busy, I am trying to take more timeouts and allow myself some mini holidays. Visiting friends and family is a great way to spend a weekend.  Of course my camera is never very far from my hands and this weekend was no exception.  From getting down on the floor to photograph “the girls” to being on the back of an ATV I kept my camera close for those not to miss shots.

One of the most wonderful joys of the weekend was “the girls” I have never been around chickens very much and I must say I think I like them a lot.  I even got to hold one, she was so sweet.  Overall it was a fabulous weekend, but it didn’t last nearly long enough.

Embracing the Beautiful You

Hey ladies! How many of you have had recent photographs taken? I know for me it’s been years as I am not comfortable in front of the camera. I simply avoided being in photographs, using the excuse that I was the photographer. When my boys were younger and we were on vacations I rarely appeared in any photographs because I was so overweight, I really disliked myself and the way I looked. I would cringe when I saw any images of myself. Reality is, my boys don’t have many photographs of me with or without them. This makes me very sad. I was young and didn’t realize how extremely selfish that decision was. I know many ladies feel this exact same way. My boys now grown and I cannot go back and change that mindset I had within myself, but I can make up for lost time. Recently I had my friend Geva take a few shots of me and they are gorgeous, I trusted her with doing this because she is quite talented and is an artist so I knew what she would see would be something I would like.

As I age I want to embrace my beauty and not recoil away from it. Ladies let me tell you, if you are shying away from the camera STOP and allow someone to capture your true beauty. Your children are going to want to look back at the photos when you are gone and be able to show them to your grandchildren and beyond. Leave a beautiful legacy for the young men and women in your life. If you have a photographer then wonderful, call them and tell them you want photos taken of yourself. If you don’t have a photographer feel free to call me and I would be thrilled to reveal the beautiful you through the lens of my camera. I understand many of us are in that forty and over age category and are beginning to show those wonderful character lines on our face, and maybe our hair is beginning to lighten; embrace it ladies it’s all part of our life. And for you younger ladies please make sure you allow photos of yourself with your children on vacations and for special events. Don’t wait until your children are grown and realize life has passed you by and you are not in any recording (photographs, videos, etc) with your children.

As you can imagine this was not an easy post for me, but I am including photos of myself and some of my friends I have recently taken. Don’t wait, get those photos as we are never guaranteed our time on earth so do it today.
